Yes, being able to create more speed and power into the wakes using balance and position will enable you to carry out wider into your turns with an earlier edge change, even at the slower speeds. If you are coming up short, then you are not creating enough speed from the buoy to the wakes. This tells me you are not in a strong enough posture to be able to create the required amount of speed during your cuts to the wakes.

As you're learning, it's fine if you need to keep cutting past the wakes to be able to get around the buoys. I'd rather you go around the buoys than have you go inside of them. As you improve in your position you will start to be able to create more energy into the wakes, and begin to allow your edge change to happen earlier. For now, let's just get you consistently running your passes. The position and timing will get better as you spend more time in the course.

The Connelly GT is a very high-end ski, and it's actually narrower/has less total surface area than all of the other high end skis. For an advanced skier skiing those slower speeds would be no problem with that ski, but for someone learning to ski the course the GT is not doing you any favors. Something like the Connelly Rocket or the HO Omni would be a lot easier for where you're currently at. If you're interested in trying one of those skis let me know.

I appreciate the support. Thank you!!

Hi Terry,
Referencing from the video library "Slower Speeds and Longer Ropes" I have been a long time open water skier but within the last couple of months have been running through the course at 26mph 15 off or trying to.
At these slower speeds and longer ropes getting off the cut at centerline does not give me momentum to round the turn buoy-so I assume I have to work on balance and posture.

Also, I have a Connelly GT and was wondering if should grow into it or go for a bit wider ski until I get better.

How much is a ski like the GT compromised in cutting and turning by being run at slower speed ?

Thanks and I tell skiers to check out your website-a great resource
